Hello, I'm Sophie
I am a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Lyon, France.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to France wasn’t in our long-range plan. As with many international assignments, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were intense—new processes, new schedules, new expectations. Routine tasks often felt more complex than necessary.
The Adjustment Period
We faced culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found places that fit us, met other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built Gentle Field Atlas
Most online guidance fell into either corporate relocation advice or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap—practical tips grounded in real life in France.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site offers:
- Hands-on experience from living in France
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when real changes occur
This site is NOT:
- An official tourism resource
- Sponsored review site
- A general travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in France continues, as does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Lyon or anywhere in France, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
